<sape_index>
In the realm of domain names, the notion of domain name suffix is extremely important. A lot of individuals these days, particularly those who are looking to buy domain names for a specific purpose, in fact select the domain name suffixes correctly. Actually, when we try to register a certain domain name, we are always required to choose a domain name suffix for that name. However, even though the domain name suffix is in place since the origin of the domain name concept, quite a few people still do not understand the meaning and significance of the domain name suffix. Despite that the term “domain name suffix” is so commonly used and heard all the time, its nature is quite rarely appreciated.

Domain name suffix actually refers to the top level domain names often called also the domain name extensions. This extension plays a huge role in the domain name world, first of all, as there is no domain name without the suffix. Besides, the domain name suffix is a major signature of domain name, which lets website visitors recognize the nature of the site. It is also called a generic top level domain and thus reflects the type of organization.

In reality there are many types of domain name suffix, and the most regular domain name suffix is the .com, which commonly stands for a company (or more generally for commercial enterprises or online services). A couple of other well-known domain name suffixes are the .org that stands for organization, and the .net, which stands for network.

In the last several years, another set of domain name extensions has been introduced and these comprise the .biz for reserved businesses; .aero for the air transport business; . coop is reserved for cooperatives; .edu for educational organizations and universities; .gov is reserved for United States government organizations and agencies; .info for various applications; .int for agencies that were established as a result of international treaties; and .mil reserved for United States military. But in addition to the aforementioned domain name suffixes, there are quite a few other domain name suffixes that also have a wide scope of applications; these include: the .museum utilized by museums; .name for individuals; .net stands for networks and is usually used by companies and organizations similar to the internet service providers; .org stands for organization is generally used by non-profit organizations; and, finally, .pro is used by professionals like doctors, solicitors, attorneys etc.

We should mention that domain name suffixes (also referred to as “top level domains”) are generally maintained by the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which administers the overall Domain Name System with the aim of identifying the type of a specific group in charge of the web site. And because certain domain name suffixes are only appropriate for specific situations, you should also use your own judgment and guidelines given in this article to decide which domain name suffix to use when you go through a new domain name registration.

<sape_index>
Virtually every day you may hear stories about some domain names being sold for thousands of dollars. Hearing that you might be tempted to leap into domain business straight away hoping that on one lucky day somebody becomes interested in your domain and will pay you a fortune for it. Right?

A common problem with newbie’s, however, is that they don’t do enough research and start wasting their money on worthless domain names. After half a year or so their faith starts to decline and they are back to the same situation where they started but with much lighter pockets then previously.

Some unlucky people even get into troubles with trademark issues. They get sued by companies holding trademark and then they start showing their temper to people on forums and various message boards.

Most of new domainers can’t even monetize their domains enough to pay the renewal costs for the upcoming year.

If you only have a few domains then you can certainly withdraw the amount from your own pocket. But when you buy 100’s or even 1000’s domains it is extremely hard to renew them at your own expense without earning anything from the domains.

My advice for beginners would be to start from 30—50 domains, no more. They can make you from 10 to 20 renewals a year even if they are not very popular. Some of the domains might give you more profit and fill the gap for you. In the end, most important is to not lose a domain name for nothing. The minimum you should aim to recover from a domain is its registration fees. This will help you maintain your domain empire and will not allow it to collapse. Even 1 dollar is a big loss if you own a few hundred domains.

So what sort of domain names you should purchase?

First of all, choose carefully, do not rush. 3-haracter com-domains these days are creating a real commotion in the market. Their prices raise sky high in the domain aftermarket. Generic dictionary words have also been sold out long ago. Newly introduced TLD’s are not so secure today, and dot-com still rules the market. You might of course succeed with other TLD’s, but if you are new to the business, we would advice you not even try.

4-letters names from AAAA to ZZZZ have 456976 combinations, and almost none of those left by now. If something is still available, it’s likely to be gibberish.

So how should you proceed if you decide to get involved with the domain business?
Look for someone who is selling their domains cheap. There are a lot of websites where you can find such domains on sale at relatively low prices. You can visit forums and message boards specifically created for this kind of information. If you don’t know any you could start from nameslot.com. Visit them and take a look for domain names which might fit your needs and then try approaching the seller. You should also watch out for trademark suits and blacklisting for the domain(s) you are interested in. You can usually obtain this information by at whois.sc by doing a search for the domain in question.

Stay tuned for the latest news in the field. Who knows, you may become the lucky one who snatches that domain name for a small registration fee and sell it later for an astronomical price! Work on them and make them work for you! This approach will keep you in the game for long run. The main point in the domain business is not to win the game, as there is no ultimate goal, but to stay in the game until it lasts.

Good luck and happy domaining!

<sape_index>
The domain name of your business is what makes you unique online! You should choose a domain name that is easy to remember, possesses a brand value, has a trust factor associated with it and, the last but not the least, keyword-rich to score well in the search engines like Google and Yahoo. Your business domain name is also hugely important for your business correspondence, especially via email.

A long name can cause communication problems, particularly if the domain name is too complicated and difficult to memorize. Here we offer you some tips on how to select a well-meaning domain name that highlights the nature of your business or brand name:

1. Keyword-rich or an exclusive domain name? If most of your business activity is going to be online, then it is vitally important to research popularity and competition for keywords built into your brand name. Try to use the most frequently searched and (among those) least competitive terms in your tentative domain name. To find such keywords, it is imperative to do some research using various website tools (like Google Adsense Keyword Tool e.g.) BEFORE launching your online business. Your target keywords should satisfy all the criteria we listed above plus bring the highest volume of traffic over a month.

2. Use your company name only if your brand is FAMOUS. That is right. If your business name is well known and overwhelms the name of products that you sell, then by all means choose the company name as the domain name for your business. For example, if your company name is Xerox, you should definitely go for Xerox as your domain name, because most people often call a photocopier Xerox, rather than the other way round. However, this is not a typical example, as most start-up and developing businesses are not so well known. If you are one of those, then you should better go for a keyword-rich domain name. An alternative, of course, is to go for both keyword-rich and brand-descriptive domain. Yet another option is to buy two domain names, one that reflects your brand name and the other containing keywords or key phrases related to your product.

3. Keep your business domain name as short as possible. Bear in mind that the shorter your domain name, the easier it is to remember. If you choose a domain name that includes a popular lingo, it’s even better! However, these days, as you will find, most popular two-word domain names are already taken. An alternative here is to hyphenate two-word phrases. SEO experts will tell you that with regard to Search Engine rankings having hyphenated multiple-word terms in a domain name is almost as good as having them one after another without hyphens, and that is probably true. However, the downside of using this strategy is that people may remember names, but often forget to type hyphens, and therefore, if you site has the same terms as an unhyphenated one (e.g., cheapholidays.com and cheap-holidays.com), they will likely to go to your competitors website. So you should undertake a thorough study when choosing your domain name. Eventually, it is one of the most important things that will dictate the success of your business.

4. Always go for Dot.com: If your website is E-commerce or any kind of online business, it’s always beneficial to go for domains with .com-extension, as when people type a domain name in the URL-filed of their browser WITHOUT an extension, it will automatically lead them to the domain with .com-extension! To reserve a good domain name and protect it from competitors, it is also a good idea to buy the same name with other popular extensions like .org, net, .biz. However, if you decide to buy only one extension, by all means go for .com!

5. Register related domain names: If you think that in the future you may have a great number of visitors arriving at your website through word-of-mouth promotion, then you should think about registering similar domain names that will re-direct visitors to your main URL (e.g. travelonholidays.com and traveltoholidays.com). There are domain speculators who register domain names hoping that some day they will be able to sell them for a profit to someone who really needs a particular domain name. So if you think up a few really nice domain names related to your business, you should consider registering them as well.

6. Bide your time: You should not select a domain name in minutes just because you want to get done and over with it. A rushed decision may cost you a great deal. Have patience and invest enough time to research and think up a domain name that you believe will suit your business best. It is also a good idea to discuss the clarity and attractiveness of a domain name with family, friends and close colleagues to see whether you really found a good name for your business. Oftentimes, a layman advice may turn out to be the most valuable!

REMEMBER: There are no hard-and-fast rules in selecting the best domain names and it’s often a subtle balance between the guidelines we give you here and your gut instinct.

<sape_index>
If you want to create a new business or a website on the internet, as you might already know, you will have to buy a domain name. This is pretty obvious for many Internet literate people – if you don’t have a domain name, you cannot create a website, end of story. Besides, if you are a novice to the world of internet business, you should also know about the importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO works, if done right, will improve your search engine rankings and, thus, your website visibility to the Internet users. Surely, you might be reading this and wondering, “What on Earth is he talking about?!” Be patient, read on.

When a domain name has been previously used by someone else and this person has let the domain expire without timely renewing it, that domain name is returned into the bunch of “domains for sale”. This is where the advantages start to show up, as similarly to a new domain, the expired domain name is on offer to anybody who wants to buy it. The significant difference between an expired and new domain name is that with the former it’s likely that the previous owner has already invested quite some time, money and effort into the promotion of that domain name.

Besides, this also means that the expired domain name is likely to have lots of backlinks throughout the internet, where “backlink” means a link to your site from other website(s). If you think about it, acquiring an expired domain means less work to be done in terms of arranging for backlinks and more time to address other important issues such as advertising campaign and further development of your business. You will have a chance to benefit from the work that the other person has already done. That expired domain name could already be listed with a lot of directories, quoted on forums and a large number of other websites that have links pointing to your site. And in the eyes of Search Engines this means “voting” for your website.

Essentially, all it means is that due to the hard work done by the previous owner you have much less work to do and less money and effort to spent. The traffic that the expired domain enjoyed before you purchased it is now YOUR traffic, and this in turn leads to sales and revenue. And all this becomes possible because some other person was so kind to do a lot of work on the domain name and let it expire.

To summarise, if you were to buy a brand new domain name, you would need to do all the promotion, advertising and SEO jobs (submitting to directories, social bookmarks, forums, arranging for backlinks etc.) yourself or hire someone to do that work for you, and that means HUGE costs! And thus it makes perfect sense to benefit from an expired domain by taking maximum advantage of the hard work already done for you by someone else and use it to build your own website.

<sape_index>
The web domain market has become increasingly more profitable in the last several years. Virtually all companies as well as lots of individuals nowadays have websites, and most of them would love their sites to be instantly recognizable. Well chosen domain names should tell visitors what the websites are about, and this may be a great bonus when Internet users are doing a search and looking for particular piece of information.

Despite that almost everybody these days can get a website for free via their Internet provider, the Internet addresses of those sites will normally include the name of their ISP first, followed by whichever name the customer chooses for his/her website. For instance, if your Internet provider is called MonsterHost.com, and you create a website using the web hosting given to you by the provider, you may wish to name your website “myshop.com”. However, in reality your website will be called “myshop.monsterHost.com”.

Most businesses, as well as individual people, would like their website names to be short, snappy and to the point. This is when web domains buyers and sellers come into play. No two individuals are allowed to have precisely the same domain name: domain names are always registered to specific owners – thus, whenever someone wants to give his/her website a specific name, she or he must first find out whether this name has not been already registered by someone else. If that domain name is occupied, the next thing that user can do is to check if this name is for sale, and, if it is, possibly buy it from the owner.

It then becomes obvious that buying and selling web domains can be quite a profitable business if done thoughtfully. The more domain names registered and are ready to sell, the higher your chances to make money by selling them to people who want to buy them. However, if you decide to start buying and selling domains, we recommend you first do a proper research. If you registered a few domain names, but they are unlikely to interest many people, then you are possessing an inventory that isn’t profitable; besides, it costs you money to keep.

Domain name registrations must be regularly renewed, and this will incur you a fee. To really profit on selling domain names, you have to buy domain names that are popular. If, e.g., you acquire a web domain named “SomethingInteresting.com”, there is unlikely to be a significant market for it. If, on the other hand, you acquired a domain name called “CheapPlumbing.com”, you will see that much more people or companies would like to buy it.

One of the most efficient methods that individuals use to do business from selling domain names is to register as domain name reseller via a popular domain name registrar. Using this technique, you purchase and register domain names from a certified registrar at wholesale prices, and then you can make a profit by simply reselling these domain names to other people.

Licensed registrars generally encourage this kind of business transactions, as it promotes development of their business, since the resellers take on themselves the costs of advertising. It turns out that quite a few big domain name sellers are in fact resellers for even bigger domain name registrars. This kind of business relationship is quite common.

Having become a domain name reseller, you will have to find means and money to advertise your new business. If your domain reselling business is rather small, generally you can simply publish ads in websites and special forums where other people advertise selling of domain names. There are lots of this sort of websites, forums and message boards on the Web, and you will easily find them by doing a search on the Internet.

If, on the other hand, you plan on building a large business for buying and reselling domain names, then you’d better create your own website, where visitors can search through available domain names and buy them directly at the website. Your website should contain trustworthy contact information to enable potential buyers to ask any questions they may have. In addition, spending some money for advertising in the long run can ensure that your domain reselling business turns out a success.

<sape_index>
While the Internet usage increases day by day, with ever increasing number of people than surfing the Web to look for services and products they want, reliable web hosting turns into a bigger issue. Customers are more and more unwilling to use companies who’s websites are loading slowly or frequently experiencing technical problems and/or down time. For any company establishing an online business it could be a real disaster if its website is often out of service for long periods of time due to a server problem. Thus, a choice of a reliable web hosting company becomes a must for any online business success these days.

Both individuals and online firms will want to choose a reliable website hosting company, which also features reasonable and competitive prices in addition to great customer service along with supreme management.

If you are looking for reliability and quality at the same time, we strongly suggest you do a thorough research before committing yourself to the final decision. To help you on this way, below we offer a list of suggestions for you to consider.

Regardless of whether you are starting a business venture or as an individual, you’ll first need to understand the basics of website hosting. A server is just a computer, which stores your website and gets requests for files and pages over the Internet. If somebody types in a domain name in a browser, a server, on which this domain lives, is accessed. In response to that the server displays the requested information (web pages or files) to the computer, from which the request was made. The more people request information for your server, the bigger is the server load and the more likely it will respond slower until it finally stops responding at all.

To draw an analogy, a hosting company can be dimmed as a landlord renting space on their computer (i.e. server) to other people. Here, you can choose between a shared hosting plan or dedicated hosting. As you might have already guessed, shared hosting is when you shares server with other clients, whereas with dedicated hosting you are the only user of the server.

Dedicated servers are usually used by online businesses that enjoy high traffic volume and therefore need lots of resources (i.e. a powerful server) to handle large number of requests that their customers send to their website. In addition to that, they also get a larger amount of disk space, a dedicated technical support and management, and surely it does cost more.

As the World Wide Web is expanding so is increasing the number of web hosting companies, thus leading to an enhanced competition on the market. Some companies offer low-cost monthly fees, and some even offer a free hosting. For an online business, free web hosting may seem like a great option. However, nothing really comes for free, and free hosting usually assumes displaying other company ads at your website, so what if those companies compete with your Internet business? Typically, a free website hosting has very poor customer service, plus its servers are usually overcrowded with personal web pages and work extremely slow. From time to time there could be serious technical issues such as down times, which might have disastrous consequences for your online business. Therefore, free hosting is definitely not a good idea for an e-commerce company.

Whether you are an established company or (especially) just making your first steps into online business, you want to maintain your positive image and keep your clients happy. Another issue to bear in mind is possibility for future expansion. A reliable web hosting company is usually able to offer a number of services and hosting packages that allow your website to grow as you go along. Thus, when selecting a reliable company to host your website treat it as setting up a long term business arrangement.

Before searching for a reliable hosting company, compile a list of what features are important to you. Those should not only consider the operation of your web site, but include other important criteria such as your short term and long term goals, time scale for promotion, as well as your budget. A multitude of factors needs to be considered with respect to your priorities and possibilities. Looking at web hosting of your most successful competitors could be a good starting point. To find out that, use the WHOIS service and enter their web addresses.

Finally, bear in mind that a reliable web hosting company is rarely the cheapest, however, there is a number of reliable hosting companies on the market to match any imaginable budget. Do a little research and find an option that suits you best!

<sape_index>
No matter how competitive your industry is, you can always come up with a keyword rich, appealing domain name for your businesses by employing naming strategy, which rather few people use. Here are the main principles:

1. Stay focused on the outcome. What is the ultimate goal that people look to achieve when buying a particular service or product? How do they feel when they have made the purchase? Quite a few company names may fall into this category.

2. Search for puns. Compile a list of appropriate keywords, say each one out loud and tinker with the sounds. Puns are much more unlikely than other types of domain names to have been registered as their constituents are not real words. For example, the name Sitesfaction, chosen for a web design firm, became a finalist in a famous naming contest and turned out to be available at that time in spite of a huge number of web design companies in the English-speaking Internet.

3. Use slang. Let your creative imagination and mind soar around for ear-pleasing phrases. As of now, there are tons of ear catching domain names still unregistered, waiting to be snatched up and used for a lucrative online business.

4. Get symbolic. Suppose you’re an expert on soccer and look to set up a paid web community for soccer fans. Such obvious names as soccertoday.com or soccerfans.com are already taken, whereas less apparent names involving soccer symbolism like, e.g., soccerandbear.com, are still free.

5. Modify actual words. For example, did you know that the name Google of the most successful search engine of today was accidentally suggested by the 9-year old nephew of mathematician Edward Kasner, providing you with a creative hint for anew possibly successful domain name: “consultakid.com”.

Happy Domain Hunting!

<sape_index>
The domain name business is one of the most thriving industries online. The industry makes money on buying and/or selling domain names as a product. These days more and more people and firms are getting involved in domain name industry.

In essence the domain industry is the business of selling, buying, developing as well as monetizing Web domain names. The professionals involved in domain name operations are referred to as domainers. Domainers sell, buy, build websites using the domain names and develop them. In domain business, revenue is generated from domain parking, its development and subsequent resale. Some professionals engaged in the domain business prefer the name domain investing to domaining, and domain investor to the domainer.

One can park a domain name with so-called domain parking services. These companies pay the domain owner a certain percentage of the advertising income derived from the ads placed on a webpage displayed to people who visit the domain. The majority of those parking services also feature a sales listing facility that enables you to easily perform a marketing campaign for reselling the domain.

Another option is to create your own parking webpage; you only need a small website to fill it with ads and then reap the 100% of the revenue. However, it may be not as lucrative as using the parking services, as those can usually get a higher traffic flow.

In order to succeed, the website you create should be content-rich. Typically, those small websites are populated with keyword-rich articles and contextual ads the Google Adsense, and are frequently referred to as Adsense Sites. You can develop a fully featured website that would sell products or/and services, as well as paid links and advertisement space.

While going through the stage of site development and promotion, you may also use an opportunity to derive revenue by simply reselling the domain name and/or the website for a price higher than the purchase price. Bear in mind the following factors that add value to the domain/site:

• Keyword richness and brand-ability of the domain name

• The volume of natural (unpaid) traffic to the site

• Current return on investment from the site

• Existing demand for similar domain names

•     Present search engine ranking

• The number of backlinks, i.e. sites linking to your website

• The interest of the specific buyer for the domain

Be aware that there are also numerous ways to lose money on the domains. Among those are

registering a trademarked as (the whole or even a part of) the domain name

paying an excessive price for the domain name

getting scammed via email and

various kinds of fraud.

While taking those things into account, you can surely make a sound income with domains by thoughtfully creating income streams or maximising the domains resale value.

<sape_index>
As quite a few companies offer an increase in available domain names, the numbers of webmasters who engage in domain name registration increases as well. This is merely the cause and effect scenario when it comes to domain name invetsment.

Therefore, if you are planning to get involved with registering a domain name, some vital rules, especially those concerning the basics of the domain name registration have to be followed if you are to succeed. Knowing the fundamentals of domain name registration will assist you in choosing an appropriate domain name, as well as make the registration process smooth and easy for you.

Before you embark on a domain name registration it is essential that you understand the nature of the domain name. So what exactly is it? Domain name is simply a web or internet address. It is normally consist of at least two parts, the top level and the second level domain names. For instance, in http://www.mydomain.com, the ‘.com’ represents the top level domain, whereas “mydomain” is the second level domain.

Let us talk about the top level domain name, as that plays a crucial role in selecting a good domain name for registration. Usually experts suggest that before going for a domain name registration, you should carefully choose the top level for your domain. The .com is the most widespread top level domain being in use these days, and its name actually originates from “commercial”. Sure enough there are plenty of other top level domains, each having its own specific in terms of subject relevance and functions.

Besides, it’s worth knowing that when you register a domain name, it is automatically added to a common database of all available domain names, where your contact information is displayed for everyone to see. In particular, your contact details, administrative contact, billing, as well as your domain name server (or DNS) are among those data. This is a commonly accepted policy of the domain name registrars and it is strictly adhered to.

When choosing a name for your domain, bear in mind that a domain name may consist of letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens. The majority of domain names registered these days terminate with one of the top level domains, of which “.com” is the most popular. Before registering a domain name, you should bear in mind that a domain name cannot start or end with a dot or hyphen, and no space is allowed in the beginning, the middle or at the end of a domain name.

Please note, you can have up to 67 characters in a domain name, however, it is generally accepted that the shorter the domain name, the better. In addition, it’s also great when a domain name contains or, even better, start from popular keywords in your field. So try to keep your domain name as short as possible, while, at the same time, including 1 or 2 relevant keywords.

Finally, you should be aware that the process of domain name registration can only be conducted via special companies called domain name registrars. Only those companies are authorised to access or modify the common domain name database. Thus, if you are up to registering a domain name for yourself, those domain name registrars should be your first point of contact.

<sape_index>
What exactly is a domain name transfer? Is this simply a procedure of transferring similar to those usual transfer processes? This is merely a couple of questions out of those many surrounding the domain name transfer. If you are keen to know the answer, read on!

In actual fact, a transfer of domain name can be accomplished when the present domain name holder (also called as registrant) is looking to make certain adjustments on the domain name registrars, which provide him with the domain name services. Thus, a domain name transfer is a procedure that can only be set forth with the initiative of the domain name owner or with his administrative contact who is listed on the recent registration record of the domain name.

A domain name transfer can in effect refer to two unique and distinguished domain name operations. The first one is transfer of a domain name registrant, and the second one is transfer of the domain name registrar.

With regard to the registrant domain name transfer, this kind of domain name transaction is considered to happen when the existing registrant of a domain name wishes to transfer all rights for the domain name in question to a third party. In practise, it’s either the domain name registrant or the administrative contact only who are endowed with rights to carry out the registrant transfer process for a domain name.

To perform the registrant domain name transfer, the majority of the domain registrars only ask for a login and password for the process to get started. However, there are also certain registrars that require a notarized application form or similar formal recognition documents, but whether this applies or not depends solely on the country of residence of the registrants.

Usually a registrar requires that kind of documents for the domain name transfer to assure that the registrant is the genuine holder of the domain name. Thus in all circumstances, the owners should contact their present registrars and file in a request for the domain name transfer to a third party.

As far as the other type of domain name transaction is concerned, namely the registrar domain name transfer, this procedure is usually initiated in case when the present domain name holder wants to change the domain name registrar. This kind of domain name transfer may be desirable by the holder if the registrant is unsatisfied with the quality of customer service that the registrar provides or due to any other personal reason.

If that is the case, then the domain holder or the administrative contact should first file in the request to the new registrar. When that is done, registrants or the administrative contacts have to contact their existing registrar company asking them to authenticate the registrar transfer of the domain name. Thus upon the conclusion of the domain name holder transfer, the registrars should be able to log in to their account at the new registrar website and regain the full control over the domain name in question.
